The New York State Assembly Health Committee has announced that it will hold two public hearings on the Medical Aid in Dying Act — on Monday, April 23 in Albany and on Thursday, May 3 in New York City — to hear testimony on the bill. This is exciting news! Hearings are so rare in New York that in a normal year most committees don’t hold a hearing on a single piece of legislation, so this is an important step forward in our efforts to legalize medical aid in dying in New York.

We strongly encourage you to attend the hearing in Albany on April 23. Opponents of the bill will be there, so it is important to have as many supporters as possible in the room to show our legislators that there is widespread and passionate support for the Medical Aid in Dying Act.

Spring Lobby Day legislator visits will be conducted after the hearing, and we encourage you to be involved with both events. In visits with legislators and their staffs, we will seek their support and share with them why passing the Medical Aid in Dying Act is so important.

Logistics:
We will gather for the Albany hearing on April 23 at 9:00 AM on the 3rd floor landing (Senate side/southeast area) of the Legislative Office Building. We will then proceed to the hearing, which will begin at 10:00 AM in the Roosevelt Hearing Room, on the second floor of the Legislative Office Building. The hearing is scheduled to end at 2:00 PM, and our visits with legislators will end by 4:00 PM.

Please RSVP to Compassion & Choices by clicking this link. C&C will be providing training to help inform supporters about the bill and the day’s activities.

We look forward to seeing you there!
